FIRST RESULTS OF THE ESTEAM PROJECT: E-BOOK - Natural Science Curricula Research in Portugal, Norway

Over the past few days, the ESTEAM project, financed by the European Union's Erasmus+ programme, was successfully winding up activities related to the project’s first working package. The main result of which was an E-book, primarily intended for primary school teachers who are actively involved in developing natural science teaching programmes. The E-book will also serve as the basis for future project activities and for the creation of an innovative teaching method that includes the use of a mobile application combined with outdoor educational activities.

The content of the E-book is based on research on the natural science curriculum in grades 7 through 9 in the primary school. Teachers, pupils, and future natural sciences teachers all actively participated in the research. The effort included an overall analysis of natural science curricula, and an extensive Internet research initiative involving 443 pupils, 287 teachers and 63 future teachers from different EU countries. Based on the final results, guidelines and pointers aimed at developing more efficient ways of achieving learning objectives and effective methods of teaching natural sciences were assembled. For the most part we took into account the needs, wishes and opinions of all participating target groups. The main idea behind the existing E-book is to serve as a teaching aid for teachers when they need a fresh approach to preparing lessons or simply want to learn more about new pedagogical practices and innovative teaching approaches.

In order to improve the quality of natural science classes and increase interest in the natural sciences we hereby invite you to have a look at the E-book, which came to life as a joint effort of Črni Vrh nad Idrijo Primary School (Slovenia), Agrupamento de Escolas Jose Silvestre Ribeiro (Portugal), Geology Department – University of Ljubljana, UNESCO Global Geopark Idrija (Idrija Heritage Centre), the Magma UNESCO Global Geopark from Norway, the Naturtejo UNESCO Global Geopark from Portugal, and the Locatify computer company (Iceland).
