3rd ESTEAM meeting in Magma UNESCO Global Geopark

The 3rd meeting within the ESTEAM project (Enhancement of School TEAching Methods by linking between schools, experts and geoparks in the combination with outdoor activities and ICT technologies), supported by the ERASMUS+ European Program, was held in Magma UNESCO Global Geopark between 3rd and 5th of October 2017. 14 representatives from the different partners from Iceland, Norway, Portugal and Slovenia met to discuss the progress of the project so far and to work on the further development.

Part of the meeting focused on evaluating the first output of the project – the making and the results of the Ebook “Reaserch of national curricula in natural science teaching in Portugal, Norway and Slovenia”. The ebook presents results from online surveys for students and teachers and will be the basis for the development of a mobile application as part of output 2. Output 2 was the focus of further discussions - deciding on features for the application, agreeing on thematics and subtopics, and workshops discussing possible exercises for the application.

Despite heavy rain the partners hiked to Eigerøy lighthouse - the same hike chosen as the pilot trail in this project for Magma Geopark. We had a visit to Jøssingfjord with a beautiful view and the old Helleren houses sheltered under the large mountains. The partner also got the possibility to follow the local high school (Dalane high school), together with a visiting high school class from from Iceland, to Ytstebrød testing the turfhunt application. The last geopark locality visited was the newly famous Trollpikken outside Egersund, which made a fun end to a productive and eventful meeting in Norway.

This was a successful meeting where progress was made and ideas were shared. The work on output 2 will now start for the ESTEAM team and we are excited to be part of the application being developed, the gathering of information for exercises, and to start testing the mobile app in the near future. Next meeting will take place in Idrija UNESCO Global Geopark during spring 2018.
