2nd Meeting of the ESTEAM Project at Geopark Naturtejo - UNESCO Global Geopark

The 2nd Meeting of the ESTEAM Project, co-financed by the ERASMUS + Program of the European Union, was held on March 27th and 28th 2017 in the territory of the Naturtejo UNESCO Global Geopark. This Meeting was attended by eleven representatives from the partner organisations of Portugal, Norway, Iceland and Slovenia.

This Meeting served mainly to review the activities already carried out and to prepare future work plans. In the current phase of the Project an analysis of the curricula and the needs of science learning among pupils, teachers and future teachers of sciences in the European Network of Geoparks was carried out.

The results will be presented in an eBook, which will be the basis for the preparation of mobile applications and outdoor activities, which are expected to be developed in the coming months. Interactive workshops were also held in the Meeting, during which participants learned more about the mobile application "Turf Hunt" and tested the game, creating a geolocation.

The participants also visited the school José Silvestre Ribeiro - a partner of Geopark Naturtejo/Global Geopark of UNESCO - and talked to pupils and teachers to fully understand the cooperation between them. Then, a visit was made to the Penha Garcia Ichnological Park to see the internationally relevant Trilobite Ichnofossils and the Inselberg of Monsanto where the Boulders Trail was carried on. In addition to an excellent monitoring by the Meeting organisation, the participants also had a taste of the excellent gastronomy and local service as well as the rich cultural heritage of the Naturtejo Geopark territory.

Thus, one can conclude the Meeting was a success, as the participants acquired more information about the continuation of the Project's activities. Moreover, the cooperation among all has been improved. The next Meeting of the ESTEAM Project will take place next Autumn at the Magma UNESCO Global Geopark. Until then, we will continue our work on content and mobile platforms development.
